HOME OF FABLEMAN'S

Swartiebank House

The land itself

Tucked away in the windswept landscape of Caithness, Swartiebank House has long been a place where the past and present intertwine.

Once part of the historic Barrock House estate, it was home to generations of crofters who worked the land, tending livestock and living in harmony with the rugged northern terrain.

1871-1873

A croft steeped in history

Records from the Caithness OS Name Books (1871-1873) describe it as a:

“small farm steading occupied by Mr. Oliphant, the property of Sir J. Sinclair of Barrock.”

Its ties to the influential Sinclair family, including General Henry Sinclair Horne, add to its storied past.

Swartiebank today

Surrounded by ancient sites such as the Hill of Works Broch and the Ring of Castlehill, Swartiebank House sits within a landscape shaped by generations of crofters, farmers, and the wild elements of the Highlands.

Today, this land remains at the heart of Fableman’s Highland Honey – where we continue the tradition of working in harmony with nature.

From the croft itself to the heather meadows beyond, Swartiebank plays a vital role in our journey. Here, we focus on sustainable beekeeping, biodiversity, and careful stewardship of the land, so it remains a haven for wildlife, pollinators, and future generations.
